Today we kicked off our spring expedition: Give Bees a Chance! Acting as detectives, students engaged in a gallery walk to explore different clues hinting at what we will study. They looked at videos, photographs, posters, books, fruits, vegetables, beeswax candles, and honey. As they walked around, they wrote down what they noticed and wondered on post-it notes. They made connections between the different types of evidence and raised questions about them. Students wondered:
Why are the bees eating the flowers?
Why do we need to save the bees?
Why are there pictures of fruits and vegetables?
Why are we learning about bees?
Why do bees eat nectar?
After the gallery walk, students wrote and drew about everything that they already know about bees. As we learn more about bees and Colony Collapse Disorder, they will add new information to their papers.
More to come!
