Homework

Homework went home for the first time on Monday.  Each week your second grader will receive a homework packet with an hour of homework per night.  Each night, your second grader will have math and reading homework.  For math, students’ work will look similar to what we do in class.  For reading, your second grader should independently  read for 20 minutes each night.  From there, your student should write a complete written response to his or her reading.

Currently, students are working on making text-to-self connections.  This week, your student should write at least three complete sentences describing what happened in the story, and how they connected to it.  Moreover, your student should explain how that helped his or her understanding of the story.

Below are the anchor charts we’ve created in our reading workshop.  You can use them as a reference if your student needs support with his or her homework.

In math, students are expected to show their thinking using pictures, numbers, and words.  They know that they should not only solve the problem, but also add labels, pictures, and and explanation of the process they went through to solve the problem.  Examples of this work can be seen on the charts below.
