Literacy Night is this Thursday, March 20 from 6:00-7:30. Like with Math Night, there will be many small workshops for parents of students from PreK to Fourth Grade.
We’ll open the evening with pizza, and a celebration of Capital City student writing in the cafeteria. Your second grader just might be in the video! From there, we’ll break out into two rounds of parent workshops while students watch movies.
Here’s a preview of the workshops:
Literacy at CCPCS: This workshop will be an overview of how your PreK-4th Grader experiences literacy instruction at Capital City.
Oral Language Instruction: Sandra, our ELL coordinator will lead a workshop on supporting oral language develop with Spanish-speaking families.
Progression of Writing: In this workshop, you’ll have a chance to see how students progress as writers from PreK-4th grade. You’ll also learn some tips for supporting your developing writer at home.
Make and Take: This is a working workshop! You’ll learn about some literacy activities you can do at home with your student. Supplies will be provided to make and take the activities.
Reading to Your Child at Home: In this workshop, you’ll learn about how to integrate questioning into your reading routine at home to spur conversations with your reader.
Bed to Bed: In this workshop, you’ll learn about how to integrate literacy activities into everyday moments like grocery shopping, driving to school, and riding the bus home.
We hope to see you there!
